Different Types Of Drug Rehabilitation
Different types of drug rehabilitation rely on available resources, the degree of cooperation from the client, and different philosophies on the nature of addiction. The psychological, medical, and law enforcement communities do not agree on which programs are most successful. This causes there to be many different paths towards recovery. Though they are different, many begin in the same stage, which is detoxification. They all involve going through therapy and end in integration or re-integration into the workforce and housing.
There are a few types of drug rehabilitation programs whose main concern is to find the underlying causes of addiction and repeated relapse. These could involve growing up in a dysfunctional family, neglect in childhood, trauma, no support system, low social skills, mental illness, no employment, or living in an environment where drugs and alcohol are being used. This holistic approach to drug rehab involves intense 1 on 1 therapy and group sessions. Other drug rehabilitation programs focus more on the solution rather then the underlying causes. They do this by teaching patients how to cope with feelings and stressful situations, and what do when they want to pick up a drug or alcohol. Many drug rehabilitation programs focus on the 12 steps of Alcoholics Anonymous. This is good for patients because it introduces them to a life long program which they can attend after treatment.
